Committed to keeping costs down for its customers, Citibank Plus Account charges no monthly fees, no dishonour fees, and no overdrawn fees on its Citibank Plus Account. This account keeps things simple, allowing accountholders to access their cash using a Citibank Plus Account debit card while benefiting from money-saving features.
What’s great?
As you compare your options, it becomes easier to choose the right debit card and transaction account to suit your needs. So, what does the Citibank Plus Account with debit card access have to offer?
Keep Fees Down
If you are trying to keep costs to a minimum, the Citibank Plus Account can certainly help. First up, you will pay no monthly service fee, with no minimum monthly deposit to worry about. That means you can use the account as frequently – or infrequently as you like, – without having to worry about depositing a certain amount to avoid the monthly fee.
You can also save on transfer fees. On its site, Citi states it will not charge you any transfer fees to send or receive money, anywhere in the world. Of course, there is a caveat. It seems this fee-free transfer only applies to Citi-to-Citi transfers. However, if you have friends or family overseas whom you regularly send money to, you could save on fees if they also have a Citi account.
And other fees? When using your Citibank Plus Account debit card to withdraw cash overseas, you will pay $0 ATM fees to Citibank – but bear in mind the operator may still charge a fee for the service it provides. As a nice touch, Citi has also done away with dishonour fees and overdrawn fees, which could help your wallet if you find yourself dealing with either issue.
Use Your Own Money
One of the most attractive elements of these transaction accounts is it allows you to pay with your own money when shopping online and in person, worldwide. The Citibank Plus Account is no different. Perfectly functional, it allows you to access your cash at ATMs and while shopping, putting a global payment network at your fingertips.
Access Your Account 24/7
You can keep a close eye on your Citibank Plus account, transfers, payments, and more via the Citi Mobile® App. The app allows you to access your account online anytime, anywhere, and on any device, from desktop to smartphone.
What’s worth considering?
One of the great things about basic accounts is that there's very little small print to wade through. However, it’s still a good idea to find out more about certain features before you use them, any fees involved, and other relevant information before you apply.
We didn’t find anything we particularly needed to highlight on this account, however, it should be noted that you must be over 18 years old to apply and the account can only be used as a personal account, not as a joint or business account.
Why should you choose it?
If you’re in search of a simple transaction account that keeps fees to a minimum, the Citibank Plus Account and its accompanying debit card could be for you. You won’t have to make a minimum deposit to benefit from no monthly fees, plus there are lots of other fees that have been swept off the table.
Basic in nature, the card provides access to Citi Mobile® App, and global payments network.

February 21, 2024Can I still apply for this card. I have had this card for 6 years and it will be discontinued on 24th Feb 2024.
Pauline Hatch
February 21, 2024Hi Fiona, my understanding is that your Citi account is migrating over to NAB. So, even if you applied now, you would still have to move over to the new NAB account and app. Here is NAB’s official document on the changes and what it will look like. Hopefully that helps!

May 8, 2023Why do I have to provide source of wealth and investment information if I am only applying for a debit card for this account?
admin
May 9, 2023Hi Mary, you’re actually on one of Australia’s debit card comparison sites. Anyhow, financial institutions like Citi have certain processes in place to ensure compliance with regulations to prevent illegal activities like money laundering and terrorism financing. By gathering this information, banks can ensure the safety and integrity of the banking system. Hope this helps!

May 6, 2023I’m travelling to the UK this year. Can I still use my Citibank Plus Account to withdraw money?
admin
May 8, 2023Hi Sue! Yes you can. Citi says it “does not charge Citibank Plus Transaction account holders a fee when they withdraw funds from an international ATM or use their Citi Debit Card to make in-store purchases overseas”. Just remember the ATM may charge a third-party fee. Have a great trip!

2. Can I get 2 debit cards for the one account, in case one is stolen etc . Then I would still have a spare to use
Thank you
admin
November 16, 2022Hi Deb, I looked into the Citibank Plus Account’s terms and it indicates that you can withdraw cash from ATMS anywhere at no cost. Also, only one card is issued at a time. If however you lose your card for some reason, you can always make a request for a replacement card to be sent to you.

August 30, 2022Hi,
I would like to use my Debit card to pay for my expenses during my holiday time in America in mid September. Do Citibank still offer free transaction fees for our Debit card while using in America or overseas?
admin
September 29, 2022Hi Joseph, I looked into Citibank Plus Account’s terms and conditions and it states that NAB does not charge Citibank Plus Transaction account holders when you use your card either to make in-store purchases overseas or withdraw funds from an international ATM. You may however be charged by the third-party provider which NAB does not have control over. Have a great trip!

May 1, 2022This article is factually incorrect ! You are talking about the Citi global currency account, not the plus account. plus account is not a multi currency account , and does not charge a 2.5% conversion fee , I am a long term account holder

February 6, 2017How to use when travelling overseas – Singapore and Europe?
admin
March 13, 2017Hi Allan, you would use it wherever Visa is accepted using your pin. We are told that Citi won’t charge you for the withdrawal from any ATM overseas and you are not charged a Citibank fee or FX transfer fee. But the ATM provider will do – which will vary according to provider. However there are Citi ATM’s in Singapore. Citi charge an International Transaction Fee of 2.5% on the AUD dollar conversion of any transaction made in foreign currency. Hope that helps.

Lee
August 22, 2016Hi. I hold a 457 visa with 3.5 years left. The Citibank application states I need to be a permanent resident. Am I excluded from applying? Thanks.
admin
August 25, 2016Hi Lee, it does state on the application page that you must be 18 years of age or older and a permanent resident of Australia. Though as this is a bank account / visa debit, I think you should still be able to apply. This maybe just some generic information that is provided. I would have a go and see what the outcome is. Could you please let me know how you go.
